Jobs for 16 Year Olds

Trying to find the perfect job for a 16-year-old is a real challenge in today’s workforce. With the current economy in shambles, it is difficult for adult workers to find stable jobs, much less 16-year-olds. Still, jobs for 16-year-olds do exist if you are willing to be flexible and search for them. Here are some potential jobs for 16-year-olds that you may not have thought of:

Babysitting

Babysitting jobs for 16-year-olds are still among the best choices. Even with the current economic problems, adults are still searching for quality child care and some time away. If you are a responsible 16-year-old and are willing to work nights and weekends, then babysitting is still a very valid job source for you. Understand that babysitting is not an easy job, nor is it one that should be taken lightly. If you are responsible, it can be fairly lucrative for a 16 year old looking for a job.

Yard service

Another outstanding job for 16-year-olds is the yard service industry. At one time this consisted primarily of mowing yards. Not anymore. Now you might be raking leaves, blowing driveways, planting flowers, tending a garden, planting grass seed or even sweeping the walkway. All of these services are available as jobs for 16-year-olds that are willing to be enterprising and work hard.

Movie Theater Jobs

One of the most popular jobs for 16-year-olds is to work at the local movie theater. Part of the reason for this is because of the perks – free popcorn, free movies and plenty of time seeing all of your friends. Some 16 year olds that work at the movie theater will serve up popcorn and drinks and some will take tickets. Almost always you will be responsible for cleaning up the movie theater after your shift.

Grocery Store Clerk

There are many jobs for 16-year-olds that can be had at the local grocery store. Produce, front end, maintenance and bagging jobs are all ideal jobs for 16-year-olds. This is one of the few jobs for 16-year-olds where you may get some experience in dealing with money on a regular basis. This added responsibility means that you must be very very responsible. You will be working directly with the public and must be ready to deal with all types of customer service problems. The experience that you can get in a grocery store is invaluable for your future jobs.

Dog Walking Service

Beginning your own dog walking service is yet another way for you to create your own job. The benefits to this are obvious. You set your own hours, the rates that you charge and the number of clients that you take on. The job is not an easy one in spite of its reputation. Walking dogs is a very serious responsibility, and can be quite challenging with certain dog breeds. If you can get several, this is a wonderful opportunity for 16 year olds.

These are just some of the jobs for 16-year-olds that are out there. With a lack of experience, 16-year-olds are at a disadvantage from the start. For this reason it is vital that you take the time to put together an excellent resume that shows all of your interests and experience both at home and at school. With some diligent searching there are plenty of jobs for 16-year-olds to be had.
