2009 National ACE Meeting
March 2, 2009
Atlanta, GA
The 2009 National ACE Reverse-Site Grantee Meeting was held in Atlanta, GA on March 2, 2009. Although some individuals were faced with challenges in travel due to the snow, the one-day meeting was a positive and productive one. ACE/UPACE and community partners participated in Think Tank Sessions that included: Working with At-Risk, Vulnerable Populations; Exploration of Contextual Conditions/Partnering to Inform Policies; and Balancing Needs of Research and Community. ACE student posters were also highlighted at the meeting, including the presentation of the 1st place award to Ms. Amie Bettencourt (VCU) for her poster entitled "Are Skills Taught in Prevention Programs Truly Effective: A Comparison of Adolescents Versus Experts Perceptions of Effectiveness." For those who were not able to make the meeting, links to abstracts and/or poster .pdfs are now available below. Other highlights of the meeting included: an update from the CDC DVP Communications team on the redesigned National Youth Violence Prevention Resource Center (NYVPRC) website that will house success stories; progress report updates from the Action Plan work groups; and a discussion of ACE accomplishments and lessons learned. Following the ACE meeting, there were also several training opportunties in which the ACEs participated - Communicating Effectively with State Policymakers (March 3-4), and Item Response Theory Training (March 3). For a copy of the summary notes from the sessions on March 2nd, please email the Coordinating Center.
